From the Outside In: A New Perspective from NHS Leaders

The question of leadership has never been more important in the NHS, or more hotly debated. The scale of the current challenges are huge, and some parts of the system are looking to leaders who can bring commercial experience to provide different approaches to address these challenges. Is this the right approach? If so, what can we learn from those who have already made that transition? We were particularly interested to learn more about this and so decided to undertake our own research.

We had detailed conversations with around 40 senior leaders, in a range of executive roles, asking about their motivations and experiences, and the insights they have to share about making the move from commercial roles to working at a senior level within the NHS.
